Colby Golf Continues Strong Spring Run Ahead of Home Invitational
May 7, 2026
Colby High School’s boys golf team has put together an impressive stretch of performances over the past two weeks, finishing in the top two at three straight tournaments as the Eagles prepare to host their home invitational on May 7.
The Eagles opened the run by claiming the team title at the Scott City Invitational on April 24 with a score of 335, edging Scott Community’s squad by six strokes.
Kaleb Dixon led the way with an individual championship round of 79, including a strong back nine score of 35. Cash Tubbs added an 83 to place sixth overall, while Ryker Schmidtberger shot 86 and Kieren Youngman carded an 87 to round out the team score. Kade Youngman finished with an 89 and Sean Wederski added a 96 for the Eagles.
Colby followed that performance with a runner-up finish at the Cimarron Invitational on April 27, posting a team total of 354 behind tournament champion Goodland.
Dixon again paced the Eagles with an eighth-place finish after shooting an 84. Kieren Youngman was close behind with an 87 to place tenth overall, while Cash Tubbs shot 91 and Kade Youngman added a 92. Ryker Schmidtberger turned in a 95, and Sean Wederski finished the day with a 118.
The Eagles continued their consistent play at the Hugoton Varsity Invitational on May 1, once again finishing second as a team with a 340. Syracuse claimed the team title with a 320, but Colby placed comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.
Ryker Schmidtberger delivered one of his best rounds of the season in Hugoton, placing fifth overall with an 84 after opening with a 39 on the front nine. Dixon and Kade Youngman each shot 85 to tie, while Kieren Youngman carded an 86 to for the trio to finish 7-8-9th. Cash Tubbs contributed a 91 to the team total, and Sean Wederski shot 118.
Across the three tournaments, Colby consistently placed multiple golfers near the top of the leaderboard. Dixon recorded finishes of first, eighth and seventh during the stretch, while Kieren Youngman placed inside the top 10 twice. Schmidtberger also showed steady improvement, highlighted by his fifth-place finish in Hugoton.
Tubbs provided a major boost at Scott City with an 83 and top-five medal finish, while Kade Youngman remained one of the Eagles’ most reliable scorers with rounds of 89, 92 and 85 over the three events. Wederski also continued gaining varsity experience as Colby’s lineup depth helped fuel the strong team finishes.
Now riding momentum from a tournament championship and two runner-up finishes, the Eagles will look to carry that success into their home invitational on May 7 as postseason competition continues to draw closer.
