Eagles Continue to Shine as Colby Track and Field Posts Strong Results in Holcomb and Garden City

The Colby High School track and field teams continued to build momentum during the final stretch of the regular season, turning in impressive performances at the Holcomb Invitational on April 24 and the Mike Smith Invitational in Garden City on May 5.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles combined for several first-place finishes, numerous top-three medals, and a long list of season-best marks as they prepare for the postseason.
At the Mike Smith Invitational, Colby’s girls were led by three event champions.
Senior Brittany Swartz cleared 5 feet, ½ inch to win the varsity girls high jump, adding to what has been an outstanding senior season. Junior Korrynne Duffey also earned a title, clearing 9-6 to capture first place in the pole vault. On the boys side, senior Jordan Jones delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning the 300-meter hurdles in 38.53 seconds while also placing second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.09.
Bailey McCorkle continued her excellent season with a second-place finish in the long jump at 17-8½ and also placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.54. Tinsley Wolf added two strong sprint performances, placing fifth in the 100 meters (12.95) and seventh in the 200 meters (26.96), while also taking seventh in the long jump with a leap of 15-11.
The Lady Eagles were particularly strong in the field events. Harper Vaughn placed third in the discus with a throw of 100-10 and eighth in the javelin at 94-6. Kalyssa White tied for fifth in the shot put at 32-5 and added a 19th-place finish in discus. Brielle Mackley placed ninth in the javelin (93-3) and 13th in the shot put (25-9½). Lily McKinney took 10th in discus and 12th in javelin, while Brittany Swartz added a ninth-place discus finish.
In the jumps, Shaylee Holzmeister placed seventh in the triple jump (33-0) and 15th in the long jump. Tatum Odell cleared 4-8 to finish fifth in the high jump, and Kylee Haug added a 10th-place finish in the pole vault.
On the track, Cora DeGood finished seventh in the 400 meters (1:05.21). Adriana Fuente took 18th in the 800 meters, and Gala White finished 18th in the 1600 while also competing in the long jump. Heidi Gray competed in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, while Raeden Aschenbrenner represented Colby in the hurdle events.
The boys also produced several strong finishes beyond Jones’ hurdle title.
Jayton Rush placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 52.52, while Jett Rush added a 12th-place finish and Steele Schroeder also competed in the event. Maverick Davenport earned a third-place medal in the long jump with a leap of 18-11 and also ran the 100 meters.
In the jumps, Jude Metcalf placed eighth in the long jump and competed in the 800 meters. Steele Schroeder placed fifth in the triple jump, followed closely by Julian Salcido in eighth and Thane Paxson in ninth. Josiah Hoppe cleared 5-6 in the high jump to tie for seventh and also competed in the long jump.
Colby’s vaulters were led by Dalton Jacob, who finished seventh at 10-6, while Brody Stramel cleared 10-0 for eighth.
In the throws, Bryndon Powell placed ninth in the javelin with a toss of 132-7 and also finished 18th in the shot put. Brady Wiedeman took 10th in the javelin and competed in discus. Ayden Joslyn led Colby in the discus with a 12th-place finish and added 14th in the shot put. Bryton Dixon placed 20th in discus and 15th in shot put, while Ceithen Carroll also competed in both events.
The junior varsity athletes also made their mark in Garden City.
Erick Torres earned a runner-up finish in the JV boys 800 meters in 2:27.55, while Ethan Reinert placed second in the JV pole vault at 10-6. Jaxon Wright placed seventh in the long jump and also competed in the 400, 800 and javelin. Kaizen Olsen, Logan Augustine and Koulter Plummer all contributed in the throws and jumps.
For the JV girls, Dayton Johnson turned in a strong all-around day, placing fourth in the triple jump, 10th in the 100 meters, and 16th in the long jump. Annica Prochazka placed sixth in the triple jump and 13th in the long jump. Delsy Tarazon placed sixth in the javelin and 10th in the shot put, while Miah Quenzer added a 12th-place finish in the long jump.
These performances followed another successful outing at the Holcomb Invitational, where Colby athletes also posted multiple top finishes and personal records.
With the regular season winding down, the Eagles and Lady Eagles appear to be peaking at the right time. Their consistent performances across sprints, distance races, jumps, hurdles and throws have provided confidence as Colby turns its attention to league and regional competition.
