HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
May 1, 2026
by Larry Gabel
Last Saturday, Heartland Christian School held their annual Prom. Thanks to our student council, Mrs. Bandy, sponsors, and all who helped make it a success.
On Monday, Elijah Gabel and Gavriel Hertel represented Heartland Christian School in a golf tournament in Hays. Out of 90 golfers, Elijah placed 10th. Good job! Also, on Monday, we started our Iowa Test of Basic Skills for grades K-8. We plan to have them completed and graded before the end of school.
Mrs. Younger scheduled a field trip to our local hospital on Tuesday for her Geometry students to help them understand practical applications of what they are learning in the classroom. They used the knowledge gained from this field trip to help them with their fun dream house project. The students are designing their dream house, and using their geometry skills to come up with measurements needed for the house blueprints.
Mr. Unger’s Earth Science class was privileged to take a field trip to Mr. Rasmussen’s house on Wednesday to observe many of the animals from Africa which were mounted and re-located to Mr. Gordon Rasmussen’s basement. The opportunity to observe, listen and learn were very rewarding for our students.
Our varsity golf team competed at Garden City on Thursday. Elijah Gabel was one stroke from tying for the overall championship. Gavriel Hertel and Samuel Hernandez both shot under 100.
Our second graders delivered 33 May baskets to our community on Thursday. Thank you, Mrs. Taylor, for arranging this and Mrs. Jeri Shuman for carrying out the project. Mrs. Taylor got a nice surprise by her second graders giving her a May basket.
On Friday, our HCS JV golfers played in the Oakley Invitational. They continue to improve. Our varsity golf team will compete in the State tournament next Tuesday in Lawrence, Kansas. Go Crusaders!
Also, on Friday, our junior high track team competed in the Quinter Invitational. Although we don’t have complete results, our athletes had many personal best times and distances. Keep up the good work!
Our kindergarteners are in charge of Chapel this Wednesday.
