New Community Center Taking Shape in Rexford
April 30, 2026
A long-vacant building in Rexford is finding new life as a gathering place for the community.
The former Rexford Post Office is currently being transformed into a new community center through the efforts of Seniors in Action of Thomas County and local supporters. Recent improvements to the building have helped move the project forward, including the addition of a new refrigerator and freezer donated by Midwest Energy.
Vicki Wark, secretary of Seniors in Action of Thomas County, recently admired the new appliances while reflecting on how much progress has been made in recent months.
“Things have changed a lot in the last few months,” Wark said. “We are thrilled to have a place where people can gather to honor someone or just to make some memories.”
Organizers say the goal of the community center is to create a welcoming space for residents of all ages to gather for fellowship, celebrations, and future community activities. While the project is still developing, the building is already beginning to serve as a regular meeting place for area residents.
Coffee gatherings are currently held every Thursday morning at 10 a.m., and organizers encourage anyone interested to stop by and visit. The second Thursday of each month is also reserved for a community birthday celebration.
Leaders involved with the project say they hope to continue expanding activities and programming as the center grows.
The transformation of the former post office into a community hub represents another example of small-town residents working together to preserve gathering spaces and strengthen community connections in rural Thomas County.
