Golden Plains Jr High Boys Compete in Hill City

The Golden Plains Middle School boys track team attended the Hill City Invitational on April 27 where they competed in a seventh-grade division and an eighth-grade division. Sixth graders competed in the seventh-grade division.

Although the boys didn’t score too many points, they did show improvement in several events. Liam Wright scored six points for the eight graders with a third-place finish and a PR of 118’ 7” in Discus. All the boys in the 100m set a PR including Wright 14.99, Blake Horobik 16.18, Cameron Sweigart 16.58, and Vincent Taylor 17.18. Sweigart also set a PR of 36.02 in the 200m.

The 4 x 100m relay team of Horobik, Sweigart, Wright, and V. Taylor ran the best relay of the season with a 1:03.74 finish. “This was a really big meet, and the weather was really cold,” said Horobik. “That affected how I ran. It was also hard to hear the announcer, but everyone got where we needed to be. We do need to work on being prepared for our handoffs in the relay.”

Results from other eighth grade events were: Javelin-Jaxon Juenemann 68’ 10”, Shot Put-Wright 27’ 0”, Discus-V. Taylor 66’ 4”, Juenemann 61. 6”, Long Jump-Sweigart 11’ 0.5”, 1600m-Juenemann 7:25.40, 400m-Horobik 1:24.28, 800m-Juenemann 3:15.70, 200m-Horobik 34.62, V. Taylor 36.23.

In the seventh-grade division, several boys set a PR. Cort Ziegelmeier set a PR of 68’ 9” in Discus and 55’ 7” in Javelin. Allen Mendoza PR’d in Long Jump at 9’ 1”, Morgan Stevens ran his best time of 48.61 in the 200m, Dominic Benavidez set a PR of 19’ 1” in Shot Put, and Dylan Lugo PR’d in both 200m (30.66) and 400m (1:08.54).

Taylor, Benavidez 1:12.15, 400m-Mendoza 1:29.39, Dible 1:31.62, Schrader-Brown 1:40.43. The boys continue their season in Quinter on May 2.
