Golden Plains Middle School Girls Work Hard in Hill City

The Golden Plains Middle School girls track team worked hard to improve in their events at the Hill City Invitational on April 27. The girls competed in two divisions--7th grade and 8th grade. Sixth graders competed in the seventh grade division.
The only points scored in the eighth grade division came from MaKenlea Focke who placed sixth in the 100m Hurdles running a 21.07. She also placed sixth in the 1600m run at 7:21.89.
Other girls set PR’s in their events. Breeze Durham set a PR of 68’ 6” in Javelin and a PR of 16.60 in the 100m. Genesis Rios knocked three minutes off her time in the 3200m finishing in 18:01.65 and Emma Kier reduced her time in the 200m to 33.85. “I feel as if everyone did better than at the last track meet,” said Durham. “The coaches talked to us about focusing and working to PR. We tend to do better when we have more competition.”
Additional eighth grade results include: Shot Put-Rios 19’ 11”, Durham 17’ 8”, Discus-Durham 44’ 11”, Rios 41’ 1”, Triple Jump-Makynslee Vargas 25’ 0”, Kier 24’ 4”, High Jump-Focke 4’2”, 100m-15.56, 400m-Kier 1:29.39, 800m-Focke 3:12.53, 200m-Focke 32.43.
In the seventh grade division, sixth grader Bailey Spresser scored all 10 of the Bulldog points. She placed third in the 200m with a 29.50 run and fourth in the 100m at 14.03.
Brookelynn Vahling set a PR in the 100m of 15.53 and A PR in the 200m of 33.16. Isabel Bieker set a PR in all three of her events including 40’ 8.5” in Javelin, 27’ 1” in Shot Put, and 48’ 5” in Discus. “It felt very good to PR is all of my events,” said Bieker. “I was very proud of myself for putting in the hard work to PR even though it was cold and windy.” Emma Zeisler also set a PR in the 200m of 34.67.
Additional results from the seventh grade include: Long Jump-Vahling 11’ 10.75”, Spresser 8’ 10.25”, 100m-Zeisler 16.68, 400m-Spresser 1:15.74, Zeisler 1:21.80. The girls continue their season on May 1 in Quinter.
