Colby Track Earns Multiple Titles, Strong Depth Showing at Holcomb Meet

The Colby High School track and field team continued its steady progression through the spring season on April 24, traveling to Holcomb for a competitive meet that tested depth across nearly every event. The Eagles responded with a strong all-around showing, highlighted by multiple event champions, several runner-up finishes, and contributions from athletes across all grade levels.

Leading the way for Colby were three standout champions who set the tone for the meet where Colby girls finished in 3rd place, while the boys ended the day at 6th place.

Senior Jordan Jones delivered one of the most impressive performances of the day on the boy’s side, sweeping to a first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a winning time of 38.48. Jones also added a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking 14.75 in the finals after posting a 14.98 in prelims, showcasing his consistency and dominance in the hurdle events.

On the girls side, Colby found gold in the field events as Korrynne Duffey cleared 10-0 to win the pole vault, while Bailey McCorkle soared to a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 16-10.50. McCorkle also contributed on the track, competing in the 100-meter dash prelims.

Bailey McCorkle ended the day in first place in the long jump with a distance of 16-10.50.

Beyond the champions, Colby stacked up points with a series of strong runner-up performances. Brittany Swartz continued her outstanding senior season with second-place finishes in both the high jump (5-0) and triple jump (34-4.50), while also taking third in discus (91-7). Harper Vaughn added a second-place finish in discus (92-2) and placed fifth in javelin, showing her versatility in the throws.

On the boys side, Jayton Rush turned in a strong effort in the 400-meter dash, finishing second in 51.66, while Jones anchored the boys 4x400 relay team to a second-place finish. The relay team of Nathan Cates, Jayton Rush, Cody Wright, and Jordan Jones crossed in 3:29.27 to secure eight team points.

Colby’s depth was evident throughout the meet, with numerous athletes contributing scoring finishes. In the girls high jump, Tatum Odell placed third alongside Swartz’s runner-up effort. Blaidynn Carman added a fourth-place finish in the long jump, while Shaylee Holzmeister took seventh.

In the throws, Kalyssa White secured third in shot put (35-1.75), and Lily McKinney placed seventh in discus and sixth in javelin. Brady Wiedeman led the boys throwers with a third-place finish in discus (136-1), while also competing in javelin and sprint events. Bryndon Powell contributed in both shot put and javelin.

The sprint group showed promise, particularly from freshman Tinsley Wolf, who placed eighth in the 100-meter finals, sixth in the 200-meter finals, and fourth in the 400-meter dash. Cody Wright advanced to the finals in the boys 100-meter dash, finishing seventh, while also contributing to both relay teams.

In distance events, Cora DeGood earned a podium finish with third place in the 800 meters (2:32.04), while Gala White competed in the 1600. The boys distance group, led by Erick Torres, Jesus Vasquez, Emery Fikan, and Leobardo Jaeger, continued to gain valuable experience.

Additional contributions came from across the roster, including athletes such as Steele Schroeder, Julian Salcido, Nathan Cates, Kaizen Olsen, Jett Rush, Annica Prochazka, Raeden Aschenbrenner, Austin Gerstberger, Joslyn Bartlett, Kylee Haug, and others who filled key roles in both field and track events.

The boys 4x100 relay team of Thane Paxson, Maverick Davenport, Nathan Cates, and Cody Wright placed 10th, rounding out the relay performances.

Overall, the meet reflected a balanced effort from Colby, with experienced seniors leading the charge while underclassmen continued to develop and contribute. With multiple event champions, strong relay performances, and depth across disciplines, the Eagles continue to build momentum as the season progresses.
