HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
April 24, 2026
by Larry Gabel
Last Friday and Saturday was the 30th reunion of Heartland Christian School, which originated as the Mingo Bible Church in Mingo in 1995. Many different graduates, parents, and grandparents, along with former staff had the opportunity to re-unite and share old war stories. It was good to remember the hard work and effort that went into revamping the old IGA store into a school building.
Many people now don’t realize all the sacrifice’s that were made for this dream to come true. There were opportunities for kids and adults to engage in games and conversations along with delicious food. A special thanks to all who helped to make this event a success and especially Mrs. Deena Bandy for planning, organizing, and facilitating this event from start to finish.
Last Saturday, our varsity golfers played in the Atwood Invitational Tournament. All our HCS golfers improved their scores. Elijah Gabel placed 3rd overall. Congratulations! Tuesday, our JV golfers competed in the Goodland JV Tournament. They improved but did not medal. Also, on Tuesday our varsity golfers had the opportunity to play in the very challenging McCook, Nebraska tournament. No one placed in the top 15, but all had a very challenging experience.
Our junior high track team competed in Logan on Tuesday. Our girls placed 5th and our boy’s placed 4th. Individual results are as follows: Girls 100M – Clara Wagoner – 2nd; Girls 200M – Clara Wagoner – 1st; Girls Long jump – Brylie Harter – 3rd; 800M – Lucy Anne Lager – 2nd; Girls 1600M – Brylie Harter – 4th, Haven Sowers – 2nd, Clover Frantz – 1st; Girls High Jump – Lucy Anne Lager – 1st, Girls 400M Relay – 3rd; Boys 100M -Kohen Bandy – 3rd; Boys 200M – Sage Elling – 4th; 400M – Kohen Bandy – 4th; Boys Discus – Slade Kruse – 3rd; Boys Shot put – Connor Bedore Erwin – 3rd, Slade Kruse – 1st; Connor Bedore Erwin – Discus – 5th; Boys 400M Relay – 1st. Good job, and congratulations!
Our 5th and 6th graders, under the direction and supervision of Mrs. Gwinn, oversaw Chapel this past Wednesday. After the traditional Bible challenges, they presented a skit portraying how we are challenged everyday with evil thoughts and temptations along with the key to overcoming them.
Also on Wednesday, Mr. Duane Unger arranged for his Earth Science class to tour the Colby water treatment plant. Practical experiences outside of the classroom helps to provide our students with a more in-depth understanding of what they are learning in the classroom.
Heartlands prom was on Saturday with the Promenade beginning at 6:30 PM. Parents and family gathered at the school to see the students in their dapper outfits.
A reminder to parents that we begin standardized testing next Monday morning, grades K-8. We administer the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Please help to ensure that your child is well rested and here, if possible. These tests are a challenge to make up.
