Lady Eagles place third at GWAC Championship

The Colby Lady Eagles captured third place at the Great West Activities Conference Girls Golf Championship on Monday, Oct. 5, at Scott Community Golf Course.
Colby finished with a four-player team score of 423, placing behind conference champion Goodland at 398 and runner-up Cimarron at 408.
The tournament featured 18 holes on Scott Community’s nine-hole layout, a Western Kansas course known for its bluegrass-blend fairways and bentgrass greens. Conditions became more difficult during the second trip around the course as temperatures climbed and wind speeds increased.
Cora DeGood led Colby with a 96, finishing 28 over par and tying Ulysses’ Bella Kratzer for fourth place. DeGood made consecutive pars on holes No. 3 and No. 4 while carding a 46 over her opening nine. She finished with a 50 on the back nine, where her biggest setback came with a 10 on No. 11.
Lakyn Sims gave the Lady Eagles a second top-10 finish, placing eighth with a 102. Sims recorded a par on No. 3 and remained steady throughout the round. After shooting a 52 on the front nine, she improved by two strokes with a 50 on the back.
Alayna Hrnicek tied for 12th after posting a 111. Landrie McKee and Morgan Hills each shot 114 to share 16th place, while Ali Cox completed Colby’s lineup with a 116 and a 19th-place finish.
Goodland’s Natalie Cure and Sadie Sederstrom shared the tournament’s lowest score with matching rounds of 86, 18 over par. Cimarron’s Presley Glenn finished third with an 89. Kratzer and DeGood rounded out the top five golfers, tying for fourth at 96.
The Lady Eagles will return to competition Oct. 13 at Cimarron Golf Club for their sub-state assignment.
